The traditional 90- or 180-day temporary duty assignments may seem a world away for Airmen attending today's Provincial Reconstruction Team pre-deployment training here.

Many PRT Panjshir Airmen have been in the Air Force for more than 10 years and can see a clear difference between this training and the deployment training, Airmen received prior to Sept. 11, 2001.

2/8/10, Commander's Update - Feb. 5 »»
Yes, it's EXERCISE time again in the 20th Fighter Wing! I know that may come as a shock to many, since we had a Phase I exercise in the past few months, and the operational readiness inspection wasn't that long ago. However, in the seven months since our inspection, we've had close to 1,000 Airmen PCS in. Additionally, we've lost a corresponding number of Airmen and their expertise as they PCS'ed out. It is critical for us to maintain a basic level of capability in deployment readiness (Phase I), and war readiness (Phase II). While we welcome home a proud 79th Fighter Squadron and Aircraft Maintenance Unit from Afghanistan, whose performance was exceptional, we must keep our machine running back here at home. I'm counting on you, and so is our nation. Have a great Super Bowl weekend, but be ready to fight next week!

Karl Bowlby, 20th Fighter Wing wing inspections superintendent. "The skills learned are perishable and in order to maintain our edge we must exercise those skills."
